Cloud computing provides a highly elastic environment that enables on-demand infrastructure capabilities over the internet to scalable computing resources that can be deployed quickly with cost efficiency and minimal management effort. Cloud computing provides value for an enterprise not just by leveraging technology but also by helping drive business through best of breed business processes, facilitating staged deployment across global operations to maximize benefits and help manage risk. This paper introduces a private cloud of a steel company group (China Steel Group, Taiwan) to show how the applications enable the company to react faster to achieve greater operational efficiencies. To gain competitive edge, it is crucial to look at application solutions deployed in the cloud that help to connect business activities across boundaries. Therefore, this paper also presents a public cloud for fastener industry in Taiwan to demonstrate the platforms for business trade, knowledge delivery, and supply chains.
