ESCAP (Energy Saving CO2 Absorption Process) has been developed as the
most efficient energy cut-off chemical absorption process for carbon dioxide capture.
In order to develop a high performance process, the test plants were placed near
the blast furnace in a steel works to take in actual BFG (Blast Furnace Gas) and had
been operated for about totally 9,000 hours in three years.
As a result of the development, the new absorption process realized 43% reduction
relative to the conventional process of heat energy consumption which occupies
majority of CO2 recovery cost. In addition, we succeeded in lowering regeneration
temperature than conventional. This result enabled to utilize waste heat at low
temperature that was not utilized yet and to reduce the unit price of heat energy.
Furthermore we added our original functionality to satisfy the production of high
purity CO2, including beverages, etc., and commercialized as "ESCAP". The first
commercialized plant was constructed in 2014, the source gas of which is HSG (Hot
Stove Gas) of a steel works and product CO2 is utilized mainly for beverage and dry
ice. In addition to these usages, ESCAP has many application for CO2 utilize or CO2
removal. At the end of this paper, new CO2 supply scheme by ESCAP is suggested
and the cost merit of ESCAP to the conventional way is showed.
