Energy Saving Practice and Performance at PT Krakatau POSCO

Limited energy sources, climate change arising from greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions, and cost competitiveness become the main concern in PT Krakatau Posco. To
optimize energy usage in this Integrated Steel Mill, many various improvements such as high
innovative technology installation, optimization byproduct gases generation, byproduct gases
supply-demand management, energy conservation implementation in Thermal, Mechanical /
Electrical equipments, and energy saving campaign to all employees, have been made and
conducted continuously. The main energy consumer facilities such as cooling tower, air
compressor, air conditioner, and steam trap become the target of improvement, considered as
byproduct gases, electricity, and steam is the biggest energy consumed by PT Krakatau
Posco. This paper focuses on company energy efficiency methodology for increasing
byproduct gases generation, reducing energy losses and minimizing fixed energy
consumption. Finally, a list of innovative technique for future implementation is highlighted.
