In power distribution networks, non linier loads produce harmonic voltage and currents that can pass through other sensitive locations in the power system and eventually back to the source. Harmonics can produce a variety of effect that can harmful to a power system structure. Consequently, the deployment of new cos and energy efficient passive, active and hybrid filtering techniques is important for the utilities and consumer alike. This paper presents an application of the harmonic filter on the shearing line power quality in order to reduce or correction harmonic current and voltage in compliance with IEEE Standard 519-1992 guidelines. This research is done in the shearing line plate mill factory which is largely operated by the motor and drive. Through the application of harmonic filter 5th and 7th, harmonic current and voltage compensated under established standards, reactive power is reduced by 76%, and power factor compensated properly from 0.7 to 0.95. As a result, 1.8 MW savings achieved from this application. Various numerical results are presented to validate the approach of the data obtained.
