NatSteel workforce comprises of multi-national and multi-cultural background. These workers are mainly from India, China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Philippines, and Malaysia. They are employed on contract basis for 2 years and is renewable. NatSteel is committed to Zero Harm. To achieve this goal, we have various hindrances like communication barriers, cultural barriers, incompetent/unskilled workers, workers turnaround and lack of ownership. Although NatSteel Leadership team prioritizes safety, it is felt still far in achieving its goal of Zero Harm. Through analysis on surveyed results, it was found that, Safety Leadership should not only stay at senior management level. Instead it should be
cascaded down to shop floor supervisors and even to skilled workers level. Basically, there should be more Leaders to propagate on Safety Leadership concepts to the entire workforce. Hence, a massive competency building program was implemented to train more Safety Leaders, and this journey would certainly bring it closer in achieving the target of Zero Harm.
