Next to the general market conditions steelmaking is highly influenced by the availability of raw materials and energy. In particular, Asian steelmaking is facing challenges in terms of availability of desired quantity and price of coal, iron ore and electric energy and a significant scrap shortage. In this scenario, several steelmakers have found in the use of hot metal in their EAF a convenient alternative which is increasingly gaining popularity. In order to support South East Asian steelmakers to cover these challenges Tenova offers a set of reliable and innovative technologies. This paper will be focused on a brief introduction on Consteel® technology and on a more detailed description of Flexible Modular Furnace Base Module (the FMF module designed to work in Converter mode).According to the existing Tenova references: Consteel ® solution is confirmed as a proven technologies to reduce the electrical consumption and to generally improve the overall EAF operations, furthermore Tenova FMF is a proven technology to work as a flexible and efficient furnace with all different type of charge mix (hot metal, scrap, DRI, pig iron). More in detail FMF Base Module has proven to be an efficient and reliable way to work in “Converter” mode.
