Introduction of Efficient Way to Remove & Replace EBT EAF Tapholes

Use of Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) allows for steel to be produced from scrap metal and reduce energy required for steel production compared to typical primary steel production using iron ores. Many EAF have an eccentric bottom taphole (EBT) refractory that must be replaced. As a specialty steel mill equipment producer and a leading steel mill refractory demolition service provider since 1952 in the USA, The KT-Grant, Inc. has developed a unique way to safely and efficiently remove the EBT EAF Taphole refractory. Using the KT-Grant EBT Taphole Drilling System, we can safely and rapidly remove the worn out EAF Taphole refractory sleeve from below the EBT EAF taphole area. The patented taphole drilling system utilizes a hydraulically powered taphole drilling attachment connected at the end of an elevated, articulating telescoping steel structure boom with a wireless radio controlled, robotic crawler machine. The same EBT EAF Taphole Drilling System can be used to safely insert the new EAF Taphole refractory sleeve prepared on a custom sized EBT Taphole Insert Holder and Set-Up Rack. Attachment can be prepared in advance and will reduce overall Taphole refractory removal time. Because of its design, capabilities, and proven success. This tool is designed to remove and change a worn tap hole on a steel-making furnace. The Tap Hole Drill is attached to our KT-Grant, Inc. track mounted crawler units that compliments the array of safe, efficient and productive methods we offer to the Steel Industry. The Tap Hole Drill is hydraulically driven and is powered by our machine through a gear box to cut the worn out tap hole out cylindrically without the use of jack hammering.
