The demand of wear-resistance steel plate in Indonesia is mainly used for the application of heavy equipment in the heavy equipment industry which is triggered by mining sector, agriculture sector, and forestry sector. The wear resistance material is used in areas where there is likely to be a high degree of abrasion or wear of the steel plate. Typical applications are in truck beds, attachments to diggers and earth movers and in processing applications in the mining industry. Production of wear resistance steel requires certain chemical composition, control of steel making, rolling and heat treatment (quench-tempered) practices. The mechanical properties of the steel applying high carbon composition and adding micro alloy element, is aimed for obtaining high hardness value and meeting customer requirement. This paper discusses product and process design, available facilities from steel making to rolling, and heat treatment (roll quencher) facilities at PT Krakatau Steel related to the development and production of wear resistance steel application.
