Spiral Welded pipes currently being used successfully in high-pressure service in oil and gas pipeline and has been in operation safely for many years. The requirements of line pipe become more and more stringent due to the operating condition (high pressure), gas or oil composition and environmental conditions lead to complex line pipe requirements like good toughness, good weld ability, corrosion resistant and higher strength. The development of line pipes grade API 5L X-60 for sour service application is a challenge that both pipe mill and steel mill are in cooperation to overcome the steel material and the method of manufacturing have to meet the market requirements. This paper presents the latest result on high strength steel for use as onshore pipeline API 5L X-60 for sour service application in oil and gas industries.
