410M1 and 410M2 martensitic stainless steels are modified from the basic martensitc stainless steel 410, contain some niobium and applied for power generation blade. We study the distinction of the heat treatment characteristics, micro-structure and mechanical properties between 410M1 and 410 M2. The precipitation hardening of 410 is happened at 400℃ but 410M1 and 410M2 are occurred earlier at 300℃. The peak hardening of 410 appears at 450℃ but 410M1 and 410M2 are delayed to the temperature of 500℃. Obviously, the phenomenon is caused by adding niobium to improve the high temperature mechanical properties. According to the result, under the quenched condition, there are lath martensites for 410M1 and 410M2. The 410M2 is not only with niobium but also with Mo, V and N that will improve the high temperature mechanical properties and better than 410M1. From the characteristic chart of quenching and tempering, the rate of tempering softening and impact toughness increase of 410M2 are delayed at the high tempering temperature range of 650℃ to 670℃. The phenomenon is observed by FSEM and approved that the 20~40nm NbC carbide is precipitated in the matrix. These carbides of nano grade make the 410M2 have better stress rupture properties than 410M1 and suitable for application to turbine blade at higher temperature stage for power generation.
