Improvement of Productivity for Keihin #1 Continuous Casting Machine in East Japan Works

Keihin #1 continuous casting machine (1CCM) is a vertical bending caster, which is installed in 1976. In order to improve the productivity of Keihin 1CCM, we carried out remodeling of four items. As the first, powder automatic feeder was installed. As the second, some CCD cameras were placed to monitor the mold from center control panel. Therefore one-man operation was established for two strands except unsteady state. As the third, automatic withdrawal control is installed. Before remodeling, operator changed casting speed using control volume. After remodeling, operator only set the casting speed and computer controls automatically. As the fourth, the CCD camera to assist setting ladle on the turret and safety system between ladle crane and turret were installed. As a result of the remodeling, we achieved the followings. Improving the working efficiency carried out labor saving. Automatic withdrawal control lead high efficiency. Additionally, mold powder cost was reduced to prevent scattering loss.
