The SIMETAL Corex process is beside the SIMETAL Finex process the only economic and ecologic alternative to the blast furnace route for the production of hot metal. This paper will give an overview about the Corex plants in operation, show the new developments and findings for the Corex process and depicts valuable concepts for the utilization of the Corex export gas. Special focus is laid on gas recycling and experiences with new developments already applied and proven on operating plants, as well as the latest operation results of the plants in China, South Africa, India and Korea. The Corex/Finex technology approves itself as a recommendable alternative to the blast furnace and/or a reasonable expansion/substitution of existing production routes
