Publisher - STG group

Category - General Novel

The construction booming market of last decade in Russia have boosted domestic production of large amounts of steel to be employed in constructions reinforcement. The world crisis met in the last months have reduced the boom in some extent but still the need is there and the market will come back soon. The need for high productivity steel plants, featuring at the mean time low processing costs and possibility for easy diversification of the products, have characterised the design of the plants to be installed, resulting in the development of very compact installations, requiring reduced investments coupled with very high production efficiency especially in terms of energy employed. in few words the MiniMIll concepts becomes the strategic response to the steel producers demand. There were several reasons which helps the success of the MiniMill concept through Russia and Ukraine at the construction steel market segment : • The presence in this business of several old Companies considered to be weak players • The large amount of imported products, especially from Europe • The fairly high prices at which construction steel were traded, especially in terms of semis There was therefore basically large market with good margins for efficient Companies and not enough strong domestic players. The best results are achieved when technologies for high productivity are developed starting from the basic design of the equipment. These technologies find their natural application in advanced, cost effective MiniMills oriented to maximum efficiency. In the paper some installations designed from STG_group are described together with some results achieved.
