Category - General Novel
During the last decades the magnesia-carbon brick has become the number one and standard refractory material for the wear lining of electric arc furnaces. Today most of the furnaces are lined with MgO-C based on high grade fused magnesia raw materials while only some years ago only the hot-spot area was lined with these highest-grade materials. This paper gives an overview on the typical magnesia-carbon materials used today and in the past. It comprises typical lining patterns as well as critical areas and operating conditions are discussed. A special focus will be set on new developments and inventions like an innovative bonding technology for MgO-C-bricks.
