In May 2008, NatSteel started on a safety excellence journey towards becoming world-class in production excellence and innovation while ensuring a safe working place and community. This desire drove us to engage a world class safety consultant to help us on our journey Top management has committed fully to support the safety programme which were rolled out across all departments. These initiatives have resulted in the change in behaviour and ownership of safety at work in both our employees and contractors. NatSteel has taken steps to capture leading indicators on safety and manage them on a preventive rather than reactive mode. This way of managing safety leading indicators has resulted in a significant reduction in our LTIF cases. NatSteel has set a goal of achieving an LTIF of 0.4 by Fiscal year 2012. We intend to cut the LTI rate by half on a year to year basis to achieve this goal We are on our way and are marching towards our goal of safety excellence. This would not be possible without the strong and passionate commitment from both our top management as well as our employees and contractors. It is NatSteel’s belief that management of safety contributes to the bottom line. Safe, healthy and happy workers are more productive and this improves business performance.
