Solution for The Upper Steel Ladle Ring

by Dr. Patrick Tassot

Publisher - CALDERYS MPD department

Category - General Novel

The main systems of a modern secondary metallurgy facility are based on ladle treatment systems such as ladle furnaces, ladle treatment stations, and vacuum degassing. Rising demands on many steel grades has led to the need for a high level of reliability and availability of steel ladles. The slag zone and bottom are the most exposed parts of the ladle to corrosion or thermal shock, but the stability of the top ring of the wall is essential for maintaining the integrity of the brick lining in the slag zone, where an incident during treatment could prove disastrous. This zone is particularly exposed to destructive forces such as mechanical abuse during deskulling, thermal expansion of the wall, thermal cycling and, in some cases, corrosion during metallurgical processing. Multiple solutions are available and it is now possible to utilize quick drying castables to preheat the ladle more quickly and optimize performance.
