The Dongbu Steel plant is located at Asan Bay - South Korea, and incorporates two parallel production lines; each consisting of a 160-ton Consteel-fed AC EAF, a twin car LF and a single-strand slab caster. In addition a double tank – double cover VD OB in line #1 can actually be used by both lines. All of these process areas were supplied and commissioned by Danieli. The relationship between Dongbu Steel and Danieli has been characterised by a spirit of cooperation and collaboration since the plant start-up. As part of their ongoing policy of continuous process improvements, in 2011 Dongbu Steel invited Danieli to apply to the above plant their considerable experiences to date in the Consteel EAF field, with the principal target of further reducing the overall conversion costs. Following an intervention by Danieli of just a few weeks in duration, the average specific electrical energy consumption was reduced by around 7%. This excellent result was obtained through the increased utilization and optimization of the Danieli EAF Technological Functions such as automatic EAF Melting Practice (including the full utilisation of the EAF weighing system to automatically drive the scrap feeding) and Dynamic Process Control (enabling the dynamic slag foaming control operated by the Danieli Automation advanced electrodes and carbon modules regulator – Hireg Plus).
