Optimizing operations of a modern EAF steel shop in today’s challenging and dynamic steel markets goes a long way to ensuring the customer’s business success and profitability. Continuous Improvement is the constant goal. Powerful tools are required that will support that goal. To achieve improvements in the steel making process a wide range of tools and professional expertise is necessary to move forward. This article gives an introduction of SGL Group’s Service status for graphite electrode applications around the world, the tools which are used, and the methodologies which help to work in the best structured way and the actions and implementations in the plants. Further, some examples of executed projects will be shown - from analysis to implementation, from start to benefit tracking - the most important milestone results in these projects. Our services focus on process improvements, most dominantly on the cost intensive parameters such as consumption and performance figures (KPI) – here all necessary actions are concentrated to achieve in parallel cost improvement effects for the customer.
