The purpose of this investigation is to compare the desulfurization performance of new re-used desulfurization agent and synthetic desulfurization agent during refining molten steel. We use the high frequncy induction furance to refine the molten steel by adding the new re-used desulfurization agent and synthetic desulfurization agent. The new re-used desulfurization agent and synthetic desulfurization agent consist of refining slag, synthetic slag, and lime. Experimental results reveal that the synthetic slag contains 14% active-CaO (F-CaO) more than that of re-used slag (1.5% active-CaO). The total content of FeO and MnO in slag, the active-CaO content in new desulfurization agent, and the sulfur distribution ratio (LS) directly affect the desulfurization ability during refining molten steel. The desulfurization ability is a proportional to the active-CaO content in new desulfurization agent and the sulfur distribution ratio (LS). The new re-used desulfurization agent of 50% synthetic slag and 50% lime has the best desulfurization ratio (52%) in all conditions.
