Hot Metal Charging Application and its Critical Equipment for EAF

In the emerging countries and regions like mainland China and Southeast Asia, etc., the cost of steel making by EAF is much higher than that by converter due to high price of power and scrap. Therefore, in case blast furnace is available, many EAF shops directly use hot metal as incoming material to reduce the cost. This paper presents the effect of hot metal charging technology on alleviating shortage of incoming material, saving energy and reducing consumption of EAF, particularly on shortening tap to tap time, reducing consumption of power and electrode, etc. Moreover, two methods of hot metal charging to EAF are compared, and the working principle, equipment composition and technical characteristics of a hot metal ladle rotating and tilting device are elaborated as well.
