Godo Steel Himeji Works produce round bars for structural use. Recently special steel users have been demanding higher and higher needs, which include such as to prevent distribution of bended products and to establish surface quality assurance for large-diameters. To meet those needs, Himeji works have taken measures such as introducing facilities for quality improvement and so on which lead to drastic improvements and fruitful result. This paper includes the most effective measures among them. (1) Reduction of bending phenomenon following cooling bed by ensuring sufficient cooling time. (2) Preventing subsequent material retentions in case of bending phenomenon by adopting lake type cooling bed and forced feeding.
