Because of requirements for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction as well as energy
savings, Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corporation (TMEIC) has
developed new technologies for energy savings in a steel plant. TMEIC has focused
on reducing not only the electrical power consumption but also other utility
consumption such as water, thermal, gas, air, etc., in a steel plant.
In TMEIC’s energy savings technology, an advanced energy management tool and
predictive models have been developed. The energy management system allows for
an energy audit to locate the data and calculate the energy savings amount. The
predictive models are applied to energy savings of a utility system such as descaling
pump system, Run Out Table (ROT) pump system, and motor cooling fan system
and this technology achieves more efficient operation in addition to simple
installation of inverters.
In this paper, first, the energy audit is introduced, followed by the energy
management system. Then, energy savings system utilizing predictive modelling
software is introduced with actual achievements.
