This article describes the recent development and technology of Taiwan's steel structure. In 1999, the destructive Chi-Chi earthquake (Ms=7.3) in the center of Taiwan has enormous impact on the use of building structure in Taiwan. This miserable lesson makes the whole society to adopt the steel structure for its reliability, and afterwards the steel building constructions has been growing steadily. In steel structural technology, both of the process of development of high performance steel and the energy dissipation elements contribute to the durability of structures.  Innovations on the buildings include: (1) new types of steel properties (SN400YB, SN490YB, SN490YC and SM570M etc.), (2) the high ductility connection of energy dissipation elements and Buckling Restrained Brace (BRB) members, etc.  These developments of steel structure were also a positive influence. In 1993, a new type of the reduced beam section (RBS) connection was developed. It is a tapered cut and mostly used in Special Moment Resisting Frame.  The government also devoted to promote the developments of steel structure, namely the bulk reward of urban for green buildings and low interest loans. Those resources and efforts cultivate the prosperous growth environment of Taiwan's steel industry.
