"In the late 1960s Badische Stahlwerke GmbH (BSW) in Kehl / Germany started to produce reinforcing steel with an installed capacity of 300.000 tons per year. Nowadays, 45 years later, BSW produces more than 2.2 million tons per year with virtually the same basic conditions and has become one of the most efficient mini-mills of the world. The plant is equipped with two 100 tons electric arc furnaces (AC), two ladle furnaces, one five-strand and one six strand continuous casting machine and two rolling mills (2-strand wire rod and single strand rebar). Many mini-mills have very similar equipment and material flow. The new target for BSW in the next few years will be to increase their production to up to 2.8 million tons in a stepwise approach, depending on market conditions. What has made BSW becoming one of the most efficient mini-mills of the world can be easily described: Educated and well-trained people care for reliable equipment, and the implementation of new product developments by Badische Stahl-Engineering GmbH (BSE), a member of the Badische Group, leads to high productivity, high consistency and low cost production. This paper shows the continuous improvement at BSW due to their motivation to be one of the best mini mills in the world, working hand in hand with BSE to optimize operation and integrate new products developed by BSE which are as well available for the market world-wide, like for example:  BSE MultiROB  Tiltable Virtual Lance Burner  Finite Network Method (FNM - Detailed calculation of a high current system)  Copper-Steel Electrode Arm with flanged holder  Lance Manipulator 3 (LM.3) Additionally it explains the motivation of BSW and world-wide customers why to implement such new tools and as well the advantages / benefits of these products by giving customer examples besides BSW."
