"The billets are produced at high casting speed due to the small cross-section at Dragon Steel Corporation (DSC). However, the high casting speed makes the central porosity defects more serious. The terminal product of CO2 welding wires with fine diameter less than 1mm are rolled and drawn from billets. The degradation of central quality in billets increases the possibility of wire breaking during following hot rolling or cold drawing process. The F-EMS stirs the liquid steel inside the shell properly with electromagnetic force, and it influences the central quality strongly when it’s located near the final solidification position of billets. The F-EMS was used to improve the central porosity of billets at DSC, and the results of low carbon steel, welding wire steel, and last billets all got improved remarkably, which was clearly verified by internal inspection. "
