Due to the demand of lightweight and safety requirements, the application of hot_x0002_stamping parts on the automotive body structure keeps increasing. China Steel Corporation has successfully developed non-coated and coated high temperature oxidation resistant 15B22 boron steel. In order to verify the formability and the mechanical properties of the steel, a hot stamping experiment had been carried out via a U-shape die. The blank is heated firstly to 930 degrees Celsius for 5 minutes. After the heating, the blank is transferred to the die to conduct the forming and quenching processes. The microstructure and the mechanical properties of the formed part were examined by the optical microscopy and the tensile test. The experimental results show that the microstructure of the blank changes from the soft austenite phase to the hard martensite phase after the hot stamping process. The yield strength, tensile strength and elongation of the part can reach 1090 MPa, 1510 MPa and 6.75% respectively. Through the test, it is sure that the developed 15B22 steel can meet the requirement of GM standard (GM 14400) and VW standard (TL4225) for hot stamping parts.
