Unlike traditional steels with main microstructure of ferrite and pearlite phases, dual-phase steels with soft ferrite and hard martensite exhibites both properties of ductility and high tensile strength. The requirements for light-weight components and shape diversity were getting higher and higher in automobile industry, therefore, it was an inevitable trend to develop automobile steel of higher strength and formability. Through fully handling the key technologies of metallurgy and hot-rolled process, especially the two-step cooling control technology being utilized to achieve proper ferrite-martensite microstructure, in 2015 CSC had commercialized JSH780Y automobile steels, which could satisfy customer demands. In the future, ultra-high strength and good formability automobile steel of the next generation will be developed continuously to meet the competitive characteristics of low energy consumption, high formability, and safety.
