In the era of growing infrastructure development, steel holds the major role. Sophisticated infrastructure design such as cable stayed bridge, long span bridge, corrugated bridge, skyscraper building, earthquake resistant building, fire resistant structure requires structural steel with improved properties either mechanically or chemically. Due to demanding requirement, innovation of structural steel is inevitable. The purpose of innovation is not only to satisfy the demand but also to trigger the nation’s growing infrastructure, both in downtown and rural area, into the modern path in terms of fabrication, construction & erection pattern, and architectural. This work is concerned with PTKS development in producing some variant of High Strength Low Alloys (HSLA) steel plate for structural application which each has specific improved properties. For construction purpose, PTKS has developed high strength steel with improved weldability in accordance to the standard EN 10025: 04 S460ML. For structural application with improved high temperature resistant properties, product comply to standard DIN 17175 15Mo3 has been developed. Considering Indonesia location are vulnerable of earthquake, PTKS has researched and developed structural steel with earthquake endurance ability in accordance to JIS G3136 SN 400 B & SN490 B. Developing of weathering corrosion resistant steel, which chemical design and mechanical design equivalent as Corten steel, is also conducted by PTKS. Due to limited infrastructure & construction method, another product is still under development for orthotropic bridge application in rural area. As a competitive hot rolled steel producer and market leader, PTKS applies Thermo_x0002_Mechanical Control Process (TMCP) concept to develop distinguished product variants with guarantee in mechanical properties. Practice of TMCP concept in hot rolling also greatly increases cost competitiveness because of rolling parameter optimization which significantly reduce the role of alloying element.
