JFE Steel Corporation has been aiming at expanding sales of high quality steel, and reaching an annual crude steel production capacity of 33 million tons. In Fukuyama Works, to establish 13 million production capacity and for meeting increases in demand for high-end steel in Japan and overseas, No.7 continuous slab caster (7CC) has been newly constructed. 7CC started up in April 2010, and the operation has been going smoothly. After starting up, the crude steel productivity has been improved by streamlining of cast preparation, increasing of ch/TD, etc. Moreover, casting speed was gained by determining the maximum speed of 7CC for each steel grade using rivet driving test. According to these efforts, the monthly crude steel production had achieved 200,000 tons the 7 months after starting up, and exceeded 230,000 tons in March 2014. High quality grade steel constitutes more than half of the product of 7CC. This report presents the general description and the operation of 7CC.
