The Introduction of a Hot Metal Pretreatment Station

In Kobe Works, the hot metal pretreatment furnace (H-furnace) process has been applied to desiliconization, desulfurization, and dephosphorization and for improving iron yield. With an increase of silicon and sulfur content in hot metal, the iron yield decreased during treatment in an H-furnace. In order to prevent the iron yield from decreasing, we have built another new treatment station for hot metal as a preliminary process in the H-furnace exclusively for desiliconization and desulfurization.The iron yield was improved in all of the hot metal pretreatment process after the introduction of this new station.
