Innovative Concepts for Automatic Grinding & Inspecting of SBQ Products

Prior to further processing of semi-finished steel products, it must be ensured that the surface of the products (e. g. billets) is free from scale and flaws. High-pressure grinding has been proven as the optimal technology for removing scale, cracks and other surface defects. The grinding of surfaces of SBQ products, however, sets quite specific requirements on the grinding facility – in particular if surface cracks shall be detected beforehand and the ground surface shall also be inspected automatically right after grinding. By means of 2 executed projects, the state-of-the_x0002_art concept for fully-automated grinding lines developed by BRAUN to fulfil the respective demands is described.
