Publisher - Krakatau Steel, Indonesia
Category - General Novel
In respond to high demand of wear plate, PT Krakatau Steel has successfully developed wear resistant steel. The steel developed is made by using hot strip mill. The steel then be heat-treated through a series of quenching and tempering process to enhance its mechanical properties. The steel contains 0.25-0.30 wt% of carbon and 1.00-1.40 wt% of manganese. It is a killed steel with the addition of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum to achieve a superior hardening properties. It has tempered martensite microstructure with an average hardness of more than 500 HBW. The steel shows exceptional specific abrasion values of 0.3x10-7 mm3 /kg. The usage of wear resistant steel varies in many fields, such as mining, forestry, agriculture, and construction. In field of mining, the steel – named as KSTA500 – has been used for liner bucket excavator and shows a good performance.
