Deformed Bar-in-Coil in Natsteel

by Chung Yuan Mei

Publisher - NatSteel Holdings Pte Ltd, Singapore

Category - General Novel

Deformed Bar-In-Coil (DBIC) is used in the reinforcement of concrete. In NatSteel Holdings, DBIC can be produced through 3 methods: hot rolling, stretching or cold rolling. In the hot rolling process, the wire is produced by the rolling mill to the required specifications. For stretching, the wire is first hot-rolled to a semi-finished product and then further stretched to the required strength. For cold rolling, the wire is also first hot-rolled to a semi-finished product but without the rib profile. It is then cold rolled to obtain the required strength and profile. Through all 3 different methods, the DBIC is able to meet the required standard as specified in AS/NZS 4671:2001. However, through usage of the coil we have found that the characteristics of the coil differ, which plays a part in the productivity of the downstream operation This paper will compare the 3 production methods at NatSteel Holdings, the characteristics of the respective DBIC products and factors that affect these characteristics. These characteristics will be compared through an experiment of bending of links using the different DBIC products
