The Long Sequential Continuous Casting Technology of High Quality Line Pipe Steel by The Improvement of Composition Control in Gwangyang Works

by Jae-Hyun Uhm, Gwang-Chun Kim, Hong-Gu Ryu

Publisher - POSCO, Korea

Category - General Novel

The long sequential continuous casting technology is indispensable for higher productivity and cost competitiveness. The high quality line pipe steel requires longer treatment time, especially in the LF, than common steel because of high alloying and tight control for lower [P] and [S]. Therefore, treatment time of the LF should be decreased to solve the bottleneck of long sequential casting. The operation in the bubbling stand has been improved to decrease treatment time in the LF. In addition, elimination of bubbling prior to heating, improvement in alloying practice, Ca yield increase and decrease in Ca charging time resulted in reduction of the LF treatment time. Throughout these activities, the number of sequential continuous casting has been increased from 4~5 to 6~7 and productivity and the yield of products were improved.
