Desulfurization of Pig Iron with Lance or Through Kanbara Refining a Survey

by Dr. Patrick Tassot, H. Namba, J. Wang

Publisher - Calderys Asia Pacific

Category - General Novel

The operation desulfurization, and sometimes dephosphorization, of pig iron can be conducted in torpedo car or transfer ladles. Main industrial methods for these operations are the deep injection of the reagent through a lance, the addition of the reactant at the surface of the pig iron followed by a heavy stirring emitted through a purging plug, or lastly addition and dispersion of the reactant on the surface using mechanical agitation, the so-called Kanbara Refining (KR). In Europe the commonly used system is the lance station, but in Asia KR-system is also very well used starting from Japan up to China and Taiwan. This paper is reviewing some differences in the process and the specific answer in term of refractories for the lances or the impeller and giving some results on the performances on site.
