The supply of lubricants and other hydrocarbon-based products has been essential to support the steel industry operations for many years. However, only recently with more focus and analysis of factors affecting the steel industries cost of operations, has the value of effective lubrication been realized along with reduced maintenance cost by usage of higher performance products. This paper covers some examples of the evolution of lubricant application in continuous casting operations and hot strip mills, and high lights examples where significant benefits to cost management and plant operational integrity in the steel industry has been achieved.
