Production Optimization Via Surface Inspection

by Joong-Heon Jeong, Elisa Jannasch

Publisher - Parsytec Asia/Pacific Co., Ltd., Parsytec Computer GmbH

Category - General Novel

Surface defects impair the quality of the manufactured metals to a high degree. They lead to waste and numerous customer claims: less throughput, higher costs, and less ability to deliver usable quality are some of the consequences. Parsytec offers leading-edge surface inspection systems (SIS) which deliver defect information to be turned into quality data. Parsytec’s SIS combine detection and classification algorithms with virtually all available camera and illumination technologies for highly advanced inspection performance. This solution enables accessing the inspection results via the internet, is based on GBit Ethernet camera technology, and deploys standard compact PCIs. For metals producers, this approach guarantees proven quality, high productivity, and efficient processes. Yet, surface inspection is not just all about obtaining data; it more importantly encompasses processing inspection data and thus turning them into quality data. Quality Yield Management Software makes rejects, re-route and re-assignment decisions possible through the integration of customer quality specification data and the access of order databases online. The purpose of this paper is twofold: first, analyzing how these innovations will contribute to the metal producers’ efforts to increase production efficiency and product quality. Second, this paper will give some examples, how leading metal producers turned surface inspection information into production excellence.
