Handling of work and intermediate rolls with fully automatic roll loading systems (roll loader) is a current task in cold rolling mill roll shops. However, in order to safe time for dismantling of roll chocks (dechocking), the application in a hot strip mill roll shop requires grinding of work rolls with chocks on, thus handling of complete roll assemblies (roll and chocks) is necessary. This creates special demands for the roll loading system, like fixation of chocks and integrated chocks rotation system for loading the roll assemblies into the roll grinder without collision. In addition to that, the roll shop management system (RSMS) has to consider the handling of both, single rolls and complete roll assemblies (rolls and chocks). In order to meet these special demands for hot strip mill roll shops, WaldrichSiegen developed a complete new roll loader, in order to improve overall performance of rollshop logistics. Furthermore, due to fully automatic handling of this loader, tremendous reductions of operating costs are possible.
