Optimization of OXY Fuel Burner for Cost Reduction in Steel Production at Pt Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk.

Nowadays, steel industries are growing very fast, demanding for products with excellent quality and competitive price. The challenge that emerges at this field is to decrease production cost of steel products. One method to fulfill the requirements mentioned earlier is reducing cost of steelmaking which can be achieved by utilizing Oxy Fuel Burner. Oxy Fuel Burner has been utilized in PT. Krakatau Steel since November 2010 in order to reduce production cost. It is used as additional power to reduce electrical power consumption in EAF. The oxygen will oxidize both Fe to become FeO that will be carried out by slag. It will also oxidize the refractory so that the lifetime of the refractory will be shorter. This paper focuses on how to produce low cost steel by optimization of both oxy fuel burner and foamy slag. The result of this paper shows that energy consumption is decreased by 82.19 kwh/TLS (708.6 kwh/TLS become 626.4 kwh/TLS) and aluminum as alloying material is decreased by 0.63 kg/TLS (3.73 kg/TLS become 3.1 kg/TLS).
