Funabashi Works produces deformed bars. At rolling mill by burning LNG in a reheating furnace, billet had been rolled at a temperature of 900 degrees. Direct rolling equipment without a reheating furnace was set up for the purpose of reduction in fuel costs in September 2010. Update as described below has been carried out. 1) putting heat retention cover over transport roller, 2) update of billet weighing machine, 3) operation method improvement of turning table, 4) introduction of transfer machine, 5) capacity up of rolling stand. After the direct rolling equipment introduction, problem had occurred for long billet of 12m length. Temperature difference of the rear end and the tip of the billet increased dimensional tolerance greatly deteriorated yields. However, this problem has been resolved and the operation has been continued. Direct rolling equipment installation has enabled to reduce the fuel consumption rate. In addition, product yield due to the temperature effect achieved also almost the same level with the furnace operation. This paper describes an overview and achievements of direct rolling facilities.
