This article expresses the concepts of MES, and also discusses the necessity to implement MES for steel enterprises specific to specialty of steel manufacturing and steel enterprise informationization. If steel & iron enterprises want gain the good effect of informationization, they should build a mature MES system which conjoint directly with process control system aimed at specialty of metallurgy industry. As an important component of enterprise informationization construction, steel enterprise MES could play an important role of connecting and breakthrough. This article emphatically described architecture and reasonable function sharing which the steel enterprises informationization should have; and also describes main functions of steel MES should realized; at the same time, this article discussed parts of key technology deeply and preliminary assessment of the benefit after implementation of MES.
