This presentation addresses many unconventional and innovative additions and modifications designed, manufactured and installed by our company in an old-fashioned Steckel Mill, for hot rolling Stainless Steel material, making it a Modernized, User-friendly and Productive Asset for the clients. The clients, M/s Bhuvee Profiles and Stainless Pvt Ltd in Orissa, India purchased a used Steckel Mill, with outdated features and facilities from Canada. Nevertheless, it was a robust construction with all working components in excellent working condition. Having entrusted with revamping and modernization, following salient features were introduced. • Mechanical Screw down type Roll loading system replaced by modern HYDRAULICALLY OPERATED ROLL FORCE CYLINDERS and AUTOMATIC GAUGE CONTROL was introduced, using a unique design in view of very little room avail bl a e for any new incorporation. • The already limited room available was further lessened to accommodate clients requirement of rolling a maximum of 165mm thick slabs. This situation was taken care of very intelligently by introducing an innovatively designed RETRACTABLE THRUST BLOCK. • To quicken and simplify Work Roll change procedure, a QWRC SYSTEM was incorporated. This too has features with novel concepts like Roll changing cylinder fitted underneath the retractable Floor plate.
