Publisher - Kyoei Steel, Kyoei Recycle, Sumikin Recycle

Category - General Novel

Yamaguchi Steel Division of Kyoei Steel (Kyoei Yamaguchi) has been employing an electric arc furnace (EAF) as a practically efficient material recycling facility to service nation-wide needs for treatment of infectious medical wastes and other various industrial wastes. Almost all kind of wastes are melted concurrently and together with ferrous scrap in steel making process. EAF does not require segregate disposal and hence provides a cost efficient and practical solutions to wastes treatment. Nevertheless, nonferrous scrap and organic compounds can be more effectively treated by a chemical decomposition type system. Kyoei Yamaguchi has recently introduced a Gasification and smelting furnace (GSF) newly developed by Sumitomo Metal Industries. The integrated system jointly equipped with the EAF and the GSF provides one of the most advanced solutions to recycling of almost all industrial wastes which are difficult to be treated otherwise. Any industrial wastes containing ferrous elements are melted in the EAF so that such ferrous elements are recycled into molten steel. Other industrial wastes containing nonferrous metals and/or organic compounds are processed in the GSF so that nonferrous metals and high caloric synthesis gas are produced. Such synthesis gas is directly delivered and utilized as an alternative fuel for kerosene in the adjacent reheating furnaces in the steel rolling mill. Remarkably effective characteristics of the system include high leveled material recycling, very little dioxins emitted, low waste processing cost, minimized production of secondary wastes and reduced CO₂ emission.
