Development of Sheet Crown and Shape Control Technology in the Hot Strip Mill at Kakogawa Works

In April 1971, the hot strip mill at Kakogawa Works was started up with 5-stand 4-hi tandem mill. In December 1974, we have constructed to 7-stand 4-hi tandem mill.
In March 1987, for high-grade products such as automotive steel sheets and for expanded product dimensions, the sheet crown and shape control technology was developed as follows.
-The short-stroke work roll shifting equipment was applied to No.3 stand.
-The long-stroke work roll shifting equipments were applied to No.4-7 stands.
-The work roll bending equipments to No.3-7 stands.
As the result, the product sheet crown was reduced to 0.05mm from 0.07mm.
In October 1999, to respond the customers’ requests for improved thickness accuracy, the short-stroke work roll shifting equipment and the work roll bending equipments were installed to No.1 and 2 stands. And now, the product sheet crown is improved to 0.03mm.
This report describes the summary of the sheet crown and shape control technology in the hot strip mill at Kakogawa Works.
