An Integrated Tracking & Monitoring System (ITMS) that consists of Computerised Billet Tracking System (BTS) & Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) was designed to track and monitor real time production information in the Rolling Mill from the time billets are charged into the Reheating Furnace, up to the point when they become finished products (i.e. Bar & Wire Rod). The BTS captures relevant real-time production signals from front-end programmable controllers of Reheating Furnace, Roughing/Intermediate/Finishing Mill and cooling beds. Data are then processed and stored into the network database. User interface screens are provided for operators to view/edit/add billet charging information, cold billet handler, billet modification, manual charging/discharging, delay, cobble, billet gap time, rolling speed, temperature and other relevant information. At finished product area, the system captured bundle information, bar coded and allow upload of bundle data into inventory system. The system can also generate all kind of customised summary reports & charts, and allows supervisors to add comments, which is then sent automatically to office environment. The CCTV equipment helps supervisors & control room operators to monitor the entire operation from charging table, hot billets in reheating furnace, auxiliary equipment, rolling stands, flying shear, laying head, all the way to cooling bed operation. This has greatly improved visibility of entire operation at a glance; it triggers faster response time to make corrective action if required and enhance the safety of employees on conditions that are not suitable for supervision at close range. The skills focus mainly on real time operations monitoring, manufacturing process control, and product traceability. In view of better visualization & monitoring of rolling mill, operators can fine tune/improve the process continuously.
