X-Roll® Reversing Cold Mill – Flexible Plant Concept for Emergent Markets

The steel industry in newly industrialized countries in Southeast Asia, like Vietnam and Thailand but also in Pakistan and Bangladesh, require highly flexible cold rolling mills, which are easy to operate and to maintain. Single stand reversing mills fulfill these requirements in a perfect way. This mill concept is highly flexible regarding the pass schedule and therefore regarding the range of products produced. The paper will present a special X-Roll® reversing cold mill, which is designed for these requirements with an annual capacity between 100,000 and 300,000 t. Beside thickness reduction it can also be used for skin pass rolling. The capability of the mill as well as the technologies implemented, like e.g. flatness actuators, will be discussed in detail.
