Plating Corresponding to the Universal Mill Renewal

Our Plant mainly produces H beams and Channel beams. Some section steel products are plated. Among our products, H100×100, H125×125 and H150×150 are plated. In case of plating, the product surface must be smooth. Formerly, some user was unwilling to use our products because of problems in the appearances after plating. The plated appearance has three following problems: (1) A flange tip is coarse. (2) Line cracks are found outside the flange. (3) Projections appear inside the flange. In order to solve those problems, the pass schedule have been changed with the renewal of universal mill. At the same time, ingredient of billets had been changed, and rolls at the roughing-mills came to be turned off at fixed intervals. After measures were taken, those products came to be used as plated products. This paper presents the surface improvement of H beam products.
