The steel industry sector of the reheating furnaces, is focused on achieving, for the new plants as well as for the retrofits, the best product quality, coupled with energy saving, very low environmental impact and high production flexibility, while minimising CAPEX and OPEX. Plate mills require reheating furnaces with the handling designed for processing the typical “squared” slabs. Three solutions are commonly adopted: pusher type furnaces, walking hearth furnaces and walking beam furnaces. This article describes the solution adopted by Tenova giving an highlight of the relevant characteristics.
