Optimum Energy Management of Electric Arc Furnace

Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) produces 30 % of World crude steel, but comparing with BOF, energy recovery and utilization are much behind. JP Steel Plantech Co. (SPCO) proposes optimum energy recovery and utilization scheme to improve such situation. EAF has two types for melting DRI and scrap, it is necessary to plan energy saving considering each EAF characteristics. SPCO has developed ECOARCĀ® for scrap melting type EAF and realized to reduce energy of 150 kwh/t-steel and good ecological operation by pre-heating the scrap. And for DRI melting type EAF, SPCO now proposes the energy saving schemes by recovering 40% of off gas heat. For example, steam from boiler system will be able to produce the electric power by TG plant or produce water by desalination plant, or use for energy of CO2 capture plant, or produce chilled water by refrigerator, etc. Also, hot water circulation system is available for off gas heat recovering. These optimum energy management assist to reduce CO2 emission.
