Category - General Novel

Dust emission of BOF gas by wet systems is often out of environmental control in many steel mills, so have to be revamped in order for increasingly environmental alliance. Dry systems have been considered and promoted as energy and water saving technology for more than 30 years, however, a careful review of operation data reveals that these dry systems consume even more energy and water than wet systems. A semi dry system has been developed by Spraying Systems Company and gradually gained acceptance over 100 BOFs just in recent years. By applying dry evaporation in wet systems, 80% or more dust is collected in dry form, so traditional water treatments are not needed again or water treatment operation could be stopped completely as one of key disadvantages of all wet systems. Additional achievements Include lower dust content ( ≤20 mg/Nm3 ); Energy saving; operation and maintenance cost reduction. This paper includes a comparison of semi-dry and dry systems for BOF gas cleaning in terms of investment; land area; installation time; performance such as dust content, energy saving, water saving, explosion proof. This may be taken as reference for further research and selection especially in considering modifications of present wet systems and improvements to dry systems.
